Cobram Secondary College expressed the need for an updated and safe play area for their students, primarily focusing on basketball, netball, and European handball, accommodating all students from years 7-12.
The condition of the existing courts posed safety risks for students as the surface was severely uneven, with trip hazards and water pooling in key play areas.
Furthermore, extensive cracks throughout the 40 plus aged asphalt, added to the safety concerns of the
existing site.
To fulfill the client's requirements, a complete design and construct was undertaken to create a revitalized play area for the students. In addition to creating a safe and inclusive space, the emphasis was also on the vibrant acrylic colors used to ensure all students would engage with the space.
The newly constructed courts are significantly safer and more durable, featuring an 80+ bpm slip-resistant coating.
To achieve this, various works were executed, starting with grinding and pressure cleaning of the base to prepare it thoroughly. Cracks and water pooling areas on the existing surface were remediated, followed by the application of two base coats to the entire surface. The courts were then marked out and painted in the desired colors, and linemarkings were added according to the specific requirements of the clients.
The renovation of the courts has transformed them into a vibrant and captivating space where students of all ages can now freely enjoy their activities without any worries of getting injured.
