After a rocky start, the massive site which was slated to become St. Kevin’s College’s multi-sport venue sat idle. It was an ambitious project that at the time was considered to be the largest synthetic sports field in the country. Thankfully, our team was up to the task, taking over the reins from a previous contractor and pushing it to completion. The venue compiled three FIFA-certified soccer fields, one National FIH-certified field, a sandwich system athletics track and numerous cricket-wickets. A huge undertaking that took the best part of nine months to accomplish.

We took on this project with one goal, to deliver elite-quality sports facilities fitting of the top-notch institution, that is St. Kevin’s College.

The sheer size and scope of the project, paired with some tight access restrictions proved to be a formidable challenge for everyone involved. However, as Tuff Group, it is in our company’s ethos to tirelessly pursue greatness – always. Working hand in hand with 2Construct, Dalton Consulting (DCE), Case Meallin & Associates along with the driven people of St. Kevin’s College, we were able to not just complete the project, we were able to deliver something that we can be proud of. In fact, whenever anyone involved in the project drives along Monash Freeway or Toorak Rd, their face would turn up a smile, their hearts filled with pride.

The facility has also stood the test of time thanks to Garth Andrews and the Tuff Maintenance crew who have expertly maintained the field on a quarterly basis. In fact, if you see the field today, you would never be able to guess how old it was.

Despite all the difficulties, we were able to pull through thanks in no small part to the great partnership we had with our clients; from the dedicated principal, Leanne; the enthusiastic facility manager, Mark; and the passionate people of the Victorian Education Department. We worked so well with everyone we have since completed several other projects for them. To this day, Parkdale Primary, with its safe and practical recreation facilities, has remained on the top of the list of schools in the local community.
