A Successful Project that Uplifts the Club & Greater Community.

The design and construction of this synthetic FIFA pitch in the northern suburbs highlights all aspects of Tuff Group’s operational ability, from the initial design and tender phase, through to the ongoing maintenance of the field. The design of this field was completed entirely in-house by Tuff Group’s own design team, with specialist hydraulic input from Marc Noyce of Noyce Environmental to ensure the vertically-draining base and stormwater infrastructure was sufficient to manage the designed rainfall intensity, and consulting from geotechnical experts Ground Science in the management of particularly reactive soils in the Thomastown area.

In collaboration with Midland Contractors, Tuff Group undertook the earthworks, uncovering several boulders along the way. Significant earthworks were required to re-shape the field away from its original turtleback shape, more suited to a natural field, to a dual-grade fall suited to a synthetic pitch. This involved significant 3D modelling of the subgrade and FSL to minimise exported material, minimising the environmental impact of the project. This project utilised a vertically-draining base, which is a specialised base that combines a pavement profile with stormwater retention and drainage properties, working in tandem with v-shaped French drains to manoeuvre
stormwater across the field to the LPOD beneath the synthetic surface. This method can be exceptionally environmentally friendly, particularly when recycled aggregates are used in the profile.

To further increase the environmental credentials of the project, the existing shelters were re-sprayed and re-used on site as they were perfectly fit for re-use. New 4.8m and 3.8m high goal backdrop fences were designed to match the neighbouring pitch and constructed alongside new
pedestrian fencing surrounding the pitch, as well as a new concrete path and
forecourt area, connecting the new field to the clubhouse.

The field is surfaced with Vmax50 and has recently been FIFA certified and will be regularly maintained by Tuff Maintenance to ensure its continued performance. Tuff Group are proud to have worked with the City of Whittlesea on a successful project that uplifts the club and community in which it resides.

TURF USED:

VMAX50 - Synthetic Turf

Australia's leading outdoor synthetic turf and sports experts in installation, construction and maintenance of fields, education playgrounds and landscape backyards.

50mm Pile Height

VMAX50 Synthetic Turf was developed here in Melbourne, after significant collaboration with end users such as football clubs and education facilities to create the perfect football or multipurpose surface. This system utilises a dual-yarn composition that minimises infill splash whilst ensuring the playing surface is consistent, durable, and of elite quality no matter the circumstance.

VMAX50 is both FIFA and AFL/CA certified, and like all our surfaces, is manufactured and installed under strict ISO9001 Quality guidelines and procedures. This system can be used with recycled infill, increasing the environmental credentials of a facility. Feedback from previous clients underlines this system’s quality and performance as an asset to clubs and facilities alike.
